Ladera Community
Church Preschool
Responding to the need for a nursery school in the Portola Valley area in the mid-1960s, the church made its facilities available for the establishment of the Ladera Community Church Preschool. The school was founded as a community outreach of the church and welcomes children of any race, culture or religious background, and provides tuition assistance. It is also a local model for incorporating children with special needs. Its governing board, made up of both church members and Preschool parents, operates independently but has representation on the Church Council.
The school provides a warm and comfortable environment for children and their parents. The program is rich in physical, social, creative, and intellectual experiences. Growth through play provides the children with support and encouragement to become confident and responsible, to trust others, and to communicate comfortably with peers and adults.
Beginning with four children in October 1966, the school now has an enrollment of more than 60 children. The teachers are required to have training in early childhood education and many of the staff have been with the school for more than a decade. It has received regular accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since January 1999.
