Music at Our Church
Music is an integral part of our worship service, both for the choir members and for the congregation. Music Director Mark Hanson says that Music is another way to express what is taught or preached. He chooses music to enhance, expand and illustrate the lessons and the seasons. His selections come from music of all periods and styles and reflect his genuine enthusiasm for each piece. That enthusiasm in turn passes to the singers and to the listeners.
Members of the congregation report that the choir music deepens the meaning of the services. Choir members say that participating in the choir is worship. There are many paths to God and a variety of music gives us lots of support in our faith journey.
Poling Chen accompanies the choir on the piano every Sunday and plays music for the prelude and postlude times of worship. Mark and Poling, with their wonderful sensitivity to the music and their performance skills, truly enhance the choir's performance.
The church’s interest in the performing arts is reflected in its hosting various community musical events, such as piano and opera recitals.
